Soccer for Beginners - What Is a Pitch

Perhaps the most important element of a football game is the playing field, which is required for every match to take place. Simply put, a soccer field is a playing field. Although it is referred to as altitude in many parts of the world, it is certainly foreign to North American ears.

For a little more detail, the shape and size of the soccer field are detailed in FIFA Laws of the Game. These laws cover everything from the ball to the scoring methods, timing and equipment required to participate in the game. You can also browse online sources to know about what is pitch in soccer.

Law 1, however, only governs the field of play. This specifies that the field must be green, marked with a white line and of a certain size. Specifically:

·         Sensor lines run along the field and can be between 100 and 130 meters long

·         The goal line fills the width of the field and can be between 50 and 100 meters

Even so, there are various other markers on the pitch for everything from the penalty area to the center circle. Flags are also placed at the corners of the field and sometimes in the middle of the road.

For obvious reasons, international matches are played on a pitch with much stricter size rules. The field must be 110 to 120 meters long and 70 to 80 meters wide. This ensures fairness and equality when teams from different countries compete against each other.

Although games can be played on natural or man-made surfaces, most games are played on natural yards. If an artificial surface is used, it must comply with international standards for synthetic turf.
